Here are the folks receiving this round of Micro Grants!
Ag47
Ag47 is a Logan Square based art mentorship program serving pre-teen & teenage girls. Through collaboration and one-to-one mentorship, women and girls share stories about their lives, take risks, ask questions and use arts to respond. By presenting their work to a public audience, Ag47 provides girls with the chance to be heard and their communities with the chance to listen. Girls have something to say. Ag47 amplifies their voices.
Knights in Bronze
Knights in Bronze is a safe haven for at-risk boys ages 8-15 in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago. Fathers and adult male role models teach the fundamentals of chess and then apply the skills toward the boys’ future endeavors in academics, sports and daily life. The boys even make their own chess sets from rock quartz while they are learning the game’s fundamentals.
Katelyn Funderburk’s 4th grade class
Katelyn and her Chicago Public School 4th grade class had a simple request: a visit to The Field Museum. Despite living only 2 miles from the Loop on Chicago’s West side, none of these students have ever been to The Field Museum. We can’t wait to hear all about it!
Donna Goode
Donna is an artist and a senior citizen dealing with the realities of living on a fixed income. We are proud to offer our support for her lifetime love of sketching the people of Chicago.
Thanks again to all of our applicants. You really made an amazing effort and we wish you the best of luck with all of your wonderful projects!
The amazing Ellen Bunch from More Organics will be here at LivingRoom on Saturday April 24th to get us ready for spring with her presentation “Basics for the Garden Starter”.

The event will go from 10AM until noon and will cover a ton of topics such as: how to make an easy bed, soil testing, annuals and perennials, good container plant combinations, creating all season interest, the basics of composting, beneficial plants, pruning for the spring, watering techniques (including rain barrels), garden design planning and more!
Ellen will also be available for questions after the presentation. She is planning to bring books for browsing and even some plants for purchase. What a great way to welcome the Spring!

Ellen Bunch is a Master Gardener from the University of Illinois Extension. After leaving her post at The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens she returned to Chicago (yay!) and founded More Organics. Her company provides a range of services including garden planning, planting, maintenance, watering, organic seeds, plants and soil, composter construction, consultation, soil testing and even garden-sitting. Ellen feels that gardening is in her blood. She follows in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother who each tended their own extensive gardens.
Ellen was just featured in TimeOut Chicago too!
A little over a year ago we posted about our friends Jon & Sarah and the $100 house they bought in Detroit. Well, things sure have progressed since then. That little house is now destined to become the home of a new multidisciplinary residency program called DFLUX.ORG, The Detroit Research Studio. Amazing! And you can be a vital part of making the magic happen by supporting their fund raising efforts!
